The Kizimkazi Festival, established by Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan—President of the United Republic of Tanzania—during her tenure as a Member of Parliament, was initiated to give back to the community and preserve the rich culture and traditions of Kizimkazi. Initially celebrated as “Kizimkazi Day,” it has since grown into a major annual cultural event held every August in the South Unguja region, drawing participants from both Zanzibar and Mainland Tanzania. The festival not only promotes cultural heritage but also raises awareness about various local activities, opportunities, and development initiatives, showcasing the potential of the region and attracting investors from across Tanzania and beyond.
