Distribution of Food Support to Secondary Schools – South Unguja

Distribution of Food Support to Secondary Schools – South Unguja

On September 4th, 2024, Mwanamke Initiatives Foundation (MIF) conducted a large-scale food distribution exercise targeting secondary schools in the South Unguja region. The initiative aimed to support Form Four students in their preparation for the national examinations by enabling schools to organize effective academic camps (kambi za mitihani). Many schools in the region face financial and logistical challenges in sustaining these camps, particularly in providing adequate meals for students. To address this, MIF supplied essential food items including rice, beans, maize flour, sugar, and cooking oil to reduce the burden on schools and ensure that students could remain on campus for focused and uninterrupted revision. This intervention reached 35 public secondary schools and directly benefited over 2,237 Form Four students. By addressing food insecurity during the critical exam preparation period, the initiative contributed to the creation of a stable and conducive learning environment, resulting in improved student attendance, concentration, and engagement. Feedback from school administrators and students highlighted the positive impact of the support, with many reporting increased motivation and participation in academic activities. This effort is aligned with MIF’s broader mission to promote education equity and empower young learners to reach their full potential.
